The Times They Are A Changin’

The 100 Dollar LaptopBlogging has been such an eye opening experience for me. The deeper I get into it the more I realize and discover the ever growing potential of the Internet. I believe that in the next few years we will use the Internet in a completely different way than we do today. No more “surfing” the web, soon it will be brought to us, immediately, on demand, customized, with up to the second information on whatever we choose or desire. No more waiting, no more searching, no more needing to discover things on our own. Soon the Internet will be discovering the web for us based on our existing interests, hobbies, likes, dislikes, friends, location, sex, age, and eye color. Look out for a totally custom designed Internet for every man, woman, and child online.

Just some of the latest developments that are already building and growing our own on demand customized Internet…

Technorati. A totally search-able database of blogs that’s updated constantly. Want to find out what someone is saying right now about the latest news stories big and small? All you have to do is type in a few words and you can find information that is being written about within the last few hours to the last few weeks. Oh, you can even customize searches and then have those searches delivered to you anytime there is an update.

Another big change that’s coming is music. Not the fact that we can buy any song online, download it instantly, or take it to the gym in our fancy little Ipods. No, the big change is the way in which we will discover and share new music. Pandora. A music service that streams your own customized radio station based on your existing likes and dislikes in music. The site will stream your own personalized radio station based on your favorite songs and artists. You can click on the album of currently playing songs, buy it, read more about it, or even continue you build your station based on that artist as well. Simply amazing!

The $100 Laptop. Have you seen this thing? I saw it on CNN yesterday and it blew my mind. It’s a laptop and so much more. As its name states, it’s only about $100, it’s targeted for 3rd world countries, it’s wireless, turns into a handheld game player, a book reader, and a portable television set. Oh, and get this… It’s got a crank on the side you can turn to generate power for it! No need to recharge it or plug it in, just crank it! I can see it now… Tribes people in the middle of the jungle cranking up their laptop and wirelessly connecting to the Internet to read my blog! Well, maybe not my blog, but you get the idea.

Folks, the Internet is in its infancy, hope you’re ready for the ride.
