No B.S. Sales Success - By Dan Kennedy
November 10, 2005

Dan KennedyI just got done reading No B.S. Sales Success by Dan Kennedy and I am truly impressed. If you have never read it I highly recommend you go out and get your copy. It was truly eye opening and is already changing how I run and operate my business.

Before I began to read the book I was reading the testimonials on the first few pages and was very compelled by one of them. It suprised me when I found out it was written by Michel Fortin (one of the most successful copywriters online today). I was also surprised to see other Internet marketers mentioned in the book. Corey Rudl and Yanik Silver are both mentioned and I discovered they were both a part of Dan’s “Inner Circle Membership Club” which I heard costs up wards of $15,000 a year!

So if Corey Rudl and Yanik Silver came to Dan for advice and mentoring then you know he knows his stuff, and boy does he! This book was chock full of fantastic ideas. One of the ideas that really stood out for me was about testimonials. Dan says you should have a preponderance of proof. He states…

Having a preponderance of proof makes it possible to sell with 100% effectiveness 100% of the time. What others say about you and your product, service, or business is at least 1,000 times more convincing than what you say, even if you are 2,000 times more eloquent.

For some time I have been using a preponderance of proof on my site for Audio Maker Pro. I have a “Testimonial Grabber System” I’ve developed and set in place that gets me tons of real paying customer testimonials with pictures and audio recordings. Once I placed 20 to 30 of these testimonials on my site my sales immediately increased. But after reading what Dan wrote it really sunk in as to the reasons why the sales increased so much. I personally believe in only using REAL PAID customer testimonials but that’s another article.

Another topic I really enjoyed in his book was “The Power of Takeaway Selling” and “Positioning”. Something you will only fully understand after reading the book, and will make a great difference not only in your sales but your life as well.

I was really impressed by this book, more than many others. He also has a book about time management called No B.S. Time Management for Entrepreneurs which I will be reading next.

I’ve had good success with 2 products I market for one of my web services clients. Their products are really good, so i fearlessly setup feedback pages and databases on both sites and invited public comments.
It was a struggle, but i convinced the owners to NEVER delete or edit comments and said so on the pages. The products are so good that 90% of the comments are positive raves - real marketing dynamite. The 10% negative ones simply prove to the public that we are not editing. We even have a couple like “I know you’re going to delete this”.
A couple times a year a competitor tries to post some devestating comment, which we do delete - we get email addresses and phone numbers before comments are allowed (not displayed to public), so we can help people with real complaints and remove the real abusers posts.

That’s a good idea. I think having a few comments on product review sites that are unfavorable shows you are not being biased. I totally agree with you too about the fake complaints. I have had a few of those myself.
