How to Speed Up Internet Explorer

Speed Up IEHere’s some great information I discovered on how you can increase the speed of Internet Explorer by modifying your registry. I use a fast cable connection and noticed a slight increase in speed after doing this modification. Remember to backup your registry before making modification, I can’t be held liable if you fool with your machine and break it. ;)

How it works…

Basically I.E. draws only two streams or less from a Web server, we are going to increase that to 6. Thus, increasing your need for speed!

  1. Get into your registry. Start – Run – Type “Regedit” without the quotes of course.
  2. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion.
  3. Click on Internet Settings so you can view its contents.
  4. Check Regedit’s right-hand column for the following two lines (values): “MaxConnectionsPerServer” and “MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server”
  5. If these values are present, right-click on the first value (MaxConnectionsPerServer), select “Modify” from the drop-down menu, click “Decimal”, and set the Value data field to 6. Repeat this process for the second value (MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server). Skip to step 11.
  6. If these lines (values) are not listed, right-click on the white region of Regedit’s right-hand column, click “New”, and then click “DWORD Value”.
  7. Enter MaxConnectionsPerServer for the name of the new “DWORD Value” and press Enter. The new value should now appear in Regedit’s right-hand column.
  8. Right-click the new value and click “Modify”.
  9. As in step 5, click “Decimal” and set the “Value Data” field to 6, then click OK.
  10. Repeat steps 6 through 9 using MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server as the new “DWORD Value” name instead of MaxConnectionsPerServer.
  11. That’s it. No need to reboot. Close all running I.E. windows and test to see your increased speed.

    Interesting. I’ll try that out.

Does anyone know if this will work on IE 7 (beta 2)?

  3. J.L. Drown

Tried it! The valus changed from hex to decimal revert to their Original ( Hex) settings in Vista, after trying your settings, so of course the speed remains the same even after a re-boot.

J.L. Drown was right, it not work in my windows vista internet explorer. It just changes back to(Hex).
