Get a Gravatar
With the recent release of WordPress 2.5 I was pleased to see their full integration of Gravatar! Something I had been using on my site for some time, but now with default integration with WordPress we’ll be seeing much more of it and more and more people will have one.
What is Gravatar? Gravatar.com is a website that hosts a picture of you. This picture or avatar as it’s called is what people will see when you post on blogs or forums that use the gravatar feature. So for example if you post a comment on my site you’ll see your gravatar pic in your comment, if you post on another blog that is using gravatar your pic will show up in that comment as well.
What’s the advantage of using a Gravatar? Branding! If you want to make a name for yourself, your product or service, or your company then you should have an image or logo that people will recognize and use it everywhere you can. I personally like to use my picture as human beings we have an amazing ability to remember faces.
Setting up a gravatar is free, so get one now, then leave a comment and you’ll see it in action.
Thanks for asking – I think this is the first blog I’ve tried it on. I usually code my email so I can track who’s blog I’ve left comments on so gravatar isn’t all that useful for me as it allows a potential spam hiccup to my personal system.
Trust me that I agree with you wholeheartedly on branding. I am a master of branding, or more truthfully an avid ego-capitalistic, shameless self promoter. Now if only I had something to sell already!
