So what is Domain Privacy and why should you get it? When you have a website anyone can look up your contact information for your domain name. This not only opens you up to unwanted phone calls, but it also is big fat invitation for spam. It’s illegal to use fake information and not a good idea anyway in case for some reason you need to be contacted, such as a legal reason. When you use domain privacy from 1&1 however, anyone looking up your domain name will see 1&1’s contact information, not yours. They will use a special email address that will forward only important emails to your real address. This will keep the spammers at bay, protect your physical address, and also protect against unwanted phone calls from sales people and others. Basically, when someone looks up your information using Whois.net or many other online tools, they will see who owns the domain, their name, address, email address, phone number, as well as other information. Here are some examples… Below is a picture of a normal domain name without any kind of privacy. As you can see, your information is freely exposed to the world.

Well I have to say the the cheapest I’ve seen. Nice find!
I tried to follow your affiliate link for 1&1, but it ended in a blank page. I don’t know if this is a Firefox issue or what, but thought I’d toss you a quick note so you could check it out.
That is a great rate, I’ve been using GoDaddy so far. I found you need to be careful with who you trust with your great new domain name ideas. I used a reseller page one time to check that the domain names I wanted were all available, but did not buy immediately. When I returned a day or two later, my domain names were all registered - to a major advertising agency no less.
1and1.com may sound like a good deal, but they can’t get the job done! I’m on my third try to transfer a domain to them, and they can’t do it. I call their customer service, and they say to to wait. The last time I waited over a month and it didn’t happen. This time, as of today it’s over a week for a transfer, and it hasn’t happened yet, and they can’t tell me why. Godaddy does it in a day. Godaddy is more expensive but worth it.
